Comprehensive Breast Care Conference

If you are ready to deepen your knowledge of how to care for the human breast, this conference is for you. First, you’ll delve into the topic of breast massage with an expert who has studied it in cultures around the world and developed her own techniques. You’ll explore how breast massage can be a vital tool in addressing pain and complications of milk stasis, and also how it can be damaging without the proper understanding. With the knowledge in this course, your clients will be in good hands–yours. Next, go deep with the subject of lactation after breast surgery, with an IBCLC who is also a breast surgeon. This course teaches everything you need to know to create an individualized care plan to support the success of any client who has had a previous breast surgery.

Included in the Conference:

Therapeutic Breast Massage in Lactation. Used properly, massage can reduce breast and nipple pain by 50 percent in 30 minutes, and can effectively treat engorgement, plugged ducts, and mastitis. However, techniques that are improperly applied can do more harm than good. This course covers Therapeutic Breast Massage in Lactation (TBML), Reverse Pressure Softening (RPS), Hand Expression, and Breast Gymnastics through photos, case studies, video demonstrations, and exciting exploration of current research. Instructor Maya Bolman, RN, BA, BSN, IBCLC, serves in Breastfeeding Medicine of Northeast Ohio, has worked with lactation care providers from cultures around the world who have developed manual therapy techniques, and has developed her own.

Plastic Surgery Procedures and Lactation. This course covers techniques and implications for lactation for reduction mammoplasty; breast augmentation; congenital breast anomalies (accessory or supernumerary nipples, axillary breast tissue, tubular breast deformity, and Poland syndrome); nipple surgical procedures (to correct inversion or to reduce nipple size); and gender affirming top surgeries. Every case you see of a client who has had breast/chest plastic surgery will be unique, and lactation outcomes should never be assumed. You will leave this course with a sound clinical approach to individualizing your care for the best possible outcome. Instructor Katrina Mitchell, MD, IBCLC, PMH-C, FACS, is a fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist and an IBCLC who cares directly for lactating parents, speaks internationally and has developed a course on breastfeeding medicine for breast surgeons.
